Greater Houston Preservation Alliance recently added three significant historic buildings to its "Endangered Buildings List": the River Oaks Shopping Center (1937), the River Oaks Theatre (1939) and the Alabama Theatre/Bookstop (1939). Planned redevelopment threatens all three of these historic Art Deco landmarks with demolition. A group of concerned citizens that includes architects, real estate investors, film professionals, historians, artists, preservationists, and business leaders has rallied together to save these landmarks.
